Ugg Boots Care Guide

Taking Care of Your Ugg Boots

Your ugg boots are more than just comfy footwear—they’re an investment! Treat them right, and they’ll stay warm, cozy, and stylish for years to come.

Cleaning & Care Tips

Right From the Start

Your new ugg boots are not waterproof. We recommend applying a suede protector spray to make them water-resistant. This will help protect them from rain and spills. If they do get wet, let them dry naturally before brushing off any stains, then reapply the spray.

Loose Threads? No Problem!

If you notice any loose threads, don’t pull them! Instead, trim them carefully with a pair of scissors to keep your boots looking neat.

Finding the Perfect Fit

Ugg boots should feel snug when you first put them on, but your toes shouldn’t feel cramped. Over time, the sheepskin will stretch about half a size to mold perfectly to your feet. Your heels should stay in place without slipping up and down.

Socks or No Socks?

Totally your choice! But if you want the ultimate cozy experience, go barefoot. Sheepskin’s natural fibers keep your feet warm in winter and cool in summer.

Color & Dye Transfer

Since sheepskin is dyed to achieve those beautiful shades, darker colors might experience some slight dye transfer at first. Don’t worry—this fades with wear.

Common Ugg Boot Issues & How to Avoid Them

Toe Blowouts

Ever heard of a toe burst? This happens when a hole forms at the top of the boot near the toes. Here’s how to prevent it:

  • Make sure you’re wearing the right size—boots that are too small put extra pressure on the toe area.
  • Keep your toenails trimmed to prevent excess pressure.
  • Invest in high-quality sheepskin boots to reduce the chances of weak spots forming.

What NOT to Do

  • Don’t cook in your ugg boots! Oils, sauces, and food stains can be tough to remove.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals. Never use bleach, peroxide, or other strong cleaning agents.
  • No washing machines! Hand-cleaning is the way to go.
  • Don’t dry clean your boots.

Keep Your Ugg Boots Safe From…

  • Dogs – They love chewing on sheepskin, so keep your boots out of reach!
  • Deep Snow – Ugg boots aren’t waterproof, so wearing them in deep snow will leave your feet cold and wet.
  • Puddles – If you accidentally step in one, let your boots air dry naturally.
  • Fake Uggs – Synthetic imitations might look similar but won’t provide the same comfort and breathability as real sheepskin.

Storage & Maintenance

At the end of winter, give your boots a thorough clean and store them properly:

  • Follow the cleaning steps below before putting them away.
  • Stuff them with cloth towels or paper to help them keep their shape.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from dust and direct sunlight.

How to Clean Your Ugg Boots

Step-by-Step Cleaning Guide

  1. Brush Off Dirt: Use a gentle pet brush or lint brush to remove surface dirt.
  2. Prepare a Cleaning Solution: Use a small amount of mild shampoo or a sheepskin-specific cleaner mixed with water.
  3. Dampen a Cloth: Gently wipe your boots in circular motions—avoid soaking them!
  4. Stuff & Shape: Place tea towels or butcher paper inside to maintain their shape while drying.
  5. Air Dry: Keep them away from direct sunlight or artificial heat sources like hairdryers.
  6. Refresh with New Insoles: Consider replacing your insoles for that brand-new fluffy feel.

Removing Stains

Oils & Grease Stains

  • Grab some white chalk and gently rub it over the stain.
  • Leave overnight—the chalk will absorb the grease.
  • Brush off any excess chalk the next day.

Mud & Food Stains

  • Let the mud dry completely, then brush off as much as possible.
  • Use a damp cloth and mild soap to gently clean the area.

Other Stains

  • Pen marks? Try using a simple eraser.
  • Glue stains? Carefully scrape off excess with a dull blade.
  • Water spots? Rub the affected areas gently together to even out the color.

Can You Wash Ugg Boots in the Machine?

We do nor recommend it! Machine washing can discolor the sheepskin, damage the structure, and even separate the sole from the boot.
